Stella McCartney: A/W 2011 The Cocktail Dress

In the past I haven't paid very much attention to Stella McCartney and her collections each season. But, that's all about to change, now that I've seen these perfect little cocktail dresses (and outta this world jumpsuit). I absolutely love the pairing of the solid black with the sheer lace, and polka dots. Sexy, abstract, red carpet ready and tailored to perfection.

Alice in Wonderland

I think most could agree that the classic Louis Carrol tale has become a part of our lives, a reference point for fantasy, insanity, and escape. I have always been one part Alice, one part Mad Hatter, with a sprinkling of the Queen of Hearts. I have long been coveting these Alice-esque clippings and I am always tantalized by interpretations of this theme by different fashion designers.  So, without further adieu, I am unveiling the first of many Dark Pony ensembles that pay tribute to that curious world that we love so much. Isn't it nice when inspiration takes flight and ideas become reality?

NYFW Spring 2011: L.A.M.B.

This was a refreshing collection from L.A.M.B. The color scheme was fresh, the theme was light- hearted but with just the right amount of rock n' roll street chic. I loved the presentation aspect of this runway show...blue sky to sunset.  Clever and beautiful. I think more designers should think as much about the look of the show as they do the look of the clothes. Tell a story already!
What can I say, I 'm a sucker for Gwen.

Glamour! Met Ball 2010

This year's Costume Institute Gala was full of surprises. Not all of them were good, but I'm going to focus on my favorites. I loved the diversity and the risk taking...the high/low contrasts and the chance to see designer looks off the runway.
Gwen Stefani in L.A.M.B.
Blake Lively in Marchessa (didn't love the shoe choice)
Iman in Prada looking amazing!
Naomi Watts in Stella McCartney (love the one shoulder)
Janet Jackson in Lanvin (very avant garde)
Chloe Sevigny in Proenza Schuler
(I LOVE the colored lace-would have paired it with different shoes though)
Chanel Iman in Michael Kors
(What can I say, I'm a sucker for gold jumpsuits)
Rachel Weisz in Oscar de la Renta
(Classically elegant)

40 Volume to Freedom

A blonde bombshell is like a caged panther: powerful, beautiful, elegant, and unreachable. Like most brunettes I have longed to be a platinum blonde. About 5 years ago I managed to achieve a shade of gold even Gwen could be proud of! Eventually I had to admit defeat. I could not keep up with the maintenance, but I vowed to one day revisit the blonde. I am on my way now-my platinum highlights are quickly multiplying.

Falling Down the Rabbit Hole

A wonderland of fabulous fantasy, a seductive imaginative place, somewhere to loose yourself...these concepts are the everlasting appeal of Alice in Wonderland. The blue and white dress of a curious little girl has become an iconic symbol of whimsy. I have always been a die hard Alice fan. It was one of my favorite things to pretend.

I love the way that Gwen Stefani dressed it up and made it oh so grown up during her "Love.Angel.Music.Baby" album. I am a sucker for thematic conceptual fashion and music. When Vogue Magazine did their spread with the world's top fashion designers I just about passed out! I love that...especially the Viktor and Rolf shirt dress....oh, so good. So, just yesterday I find out that Tim Burton is doing an Alice in Wonderland remake. I am so excited I can barely contain myself. I hope it can live up to all of my expectations. From the promo pics, it looks tantalizing...
