Spring 2011: Dior Couture

John Galliano knows how to do that 40's-50's era so well. The contrast of a woman dressed in the softest pastels, with a face so sharply defined it could put Joan Crawford to the test! For me the most exciting item from this show was that blue hat. It is abstractly bird like, but at the same time it really does look like someone just drew it on top of her head and gently washed it with water colors. Amazing! I also had to throw this yellow strapless number in there. Nobody does classic couture like Dior.

Gasp! in the Garden...

Ahhh couture season...the fantasy and the fluff. This collection from Christian Dior as designed by one of my favorites, John Galliano, is in no way an abstract story. In fact it is a straight forward statement: beauty. Woman as a flower.  A classic theme with a modern twist. The colors are mind blowing...here are my favorites:

Old Money-High Style: DIOR Couture 2010

I am such a sucker for anything John Galliano. In my opinion he is a genius and he knows how to pile on the glam sky high. In this collection he featured so many of my favorite elements: equestrian, veiling, top hats, spats, lace, tear drop crystals, volume, and of course color! Here are my favorites:

Oh to have that hat!

The craftsmanship of this dress is amazing

LOVE these boots

Fushia opera gloves in leather- oh yeah!

Amazing hat- beautiful earrings

This was my favorite makeup look of the show...perfection!

Fit for A Queen

The craftsmanship, attention to detail, construction, and concept are outta control! It makes my head spin just trying to imagine putting these amazing garments together. This is truly old school haute couture. Viva la inspiration!

Falling Down the Rabbit Hole

A wonderland of fabulous fantasy, a seductive imaginative place, somewhere to loose yourself...these concepts are the everlasting appeal of Alice in Wonderland. The blue and white dress of a curious little girl has become an iconic symbol of whimsy. I have always been a die hard Alice fan. It was one of my favorite things to pretend.

I love the way that Gwen Stefani dressed it up and made it oh so grown up during her "Love.Angel.Music.Baby" album. I am a sucker for thematic conceptual fashion and music. When Vogue Magazine did their spread with the world's top fashion designers I just about passed out! I love that...especially the Viktor and Rolf shirt dress....oh, so good. So, just yesterday I find out that Tim Burton is doing an Alice in Wonderland remake. I am so excited I can barely contain myself. I hope it can live up to all of my expectations. From the promo pics, it looks tantalizing...

The Man knows How to put on a Show!

John Galliano is one of my fashion heros...he is very over the top, but his clothing is amazing. I found a clip of his Fall/winter 2009 Haute Couture show and wanted to show it here. I love the idea of the snow tunnel.
