Alexander McQueen Fall 2011
Sarah Burton did a great job of keeping the exquisite detailing and drama alive in this latest collection for Alexander McQueen. I loved the boots and the amazing layers of fur and tulle and organza. The contrast of leather constraints against the flowing skirts and coats was a nice touch. It's like a Narnia wedding with a little S&M honeymoon. I know one thing, we haven't seen the last of these shoes!

The Gods Have Spoken
Well, this Greek fascination started a long time ago. When I was around 13 I was watching the show Fashion File, one of the collections that was getting a lot of attention that season was Jean Paul Gaultier. His closing bridal ensemble was modeled by Madonna and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. It was amazing. The staging, the concept, and I loved that gold winged headband. Another one of those iconic pictures that crept into my subconscious to stay. Over the years I have had this image (below) on my bulletin board or in an inspiration file. I have moved 8 times in the last 12 years and I have managed to keep track of it. I guess it must be pretty important.
Madonna with Jean Paul Gaultier 1994. She closed his show in Paris with this bridal number.
Love the drama of this image. What's in that carriage??
Turns out there was a fluffy white dog in the carriage. I loved the humor and the spectacle.
After all that inspiration the Greek Goddess Feathered Headband was born 16 years later!
Just recently I came across this: Alexander McQueen for Givenchy from the 1990's. All I can say is that this is just all kinds of WOW! It took it to the next level.
So, tonight when we take the kids trick-or-treating, I will be a Greek goddess. I have even created a new amped up version of my headband for tonight. Let the fun begin.
Happy Halloween!
xoxo

Paris Fashion Week Spring 2011: Alexander McQueen
Even though no one will ever replace the original Alexander, this McQueen show kept his tradition alive. I loved the warrior meets woodland creature vibe. The shoes were out of control, and the detail as always, was humbling. A nice surprise from the midst of Paris.

Skyscraper Desire
Who doesn't love a sky high stiletto when done just right?
If I found myself suddenly wealthy, first I would hire a driver and then I would fill my walk in with rows of completely impractical, impossibly sexy heels for every occasion!

CFDA 2010 Red Carpet
The Council of Fashion Designers of America had it's annual award show the other night and it turned out the expected assortment of eye candy. Here are my favorites:
A tribute to the late Alexander McQueen
Lara Stone in Calvin Klein
Zac Posen with Devon Aoki, in a dress by the designer
Sarah Jessica Parker in Alexander McQueen
My favorite was this amazing Marchesa dress worn by Hana Soukupova...those circus horses are melting me!

Behind the Lace Curtain
When done right, there is nothing like black lace. It is a timeless classic that, when used properly, can instantly transform the everyday into a naughty mystery. Think femme fatale, film noir, dangerous glamour, and major trend. I too fell under it's spell at an early age, influenced by the "Vogue" video, old Hollywood, and Joan Collins. Here is a collection of sheer genius.

Tragedy: Losing McQueen
It's hard to believe the world will no longer have the genius of Alexander McQueen. He was one of my favorite designers. His runway shows were never disappointing, always full of high drama and amazing ideas. He was able to make the macabre beautiful, the gothic interesting, and old romance feel new and fresh. When you watch one of his runway shows you feel enlightened, awed, and inspired to make something with impact.
This show rocked my world, it got inside my subconscious and has influenced me ever since. I had forgotten all about it until recently and now that I have watched it again I realize how much I LOVE it.
Check out this amazing show featuring Kate Moss as a Hologram:
