Love Ball: Fashion Fairy Tale

Truly an amazing spectacle.
The kind of event I imagine having someday as the ultimate fete to end them all!

Nude Nostalgia

My childhood heroines were all the baddest bitches of day and nighttime television. Alexis Colby, Erica Cane, Maddie Hayes, and Blanche Devereaux come to mind. These ladies were smart, sophisticated, snappy dressers and they all wore nude heels! I completely forgot about this trend until it recently started showing up on the red carpets and runways this season. Nude pumps complement brights, blacks and whites nicely. I sadly do not own one pair, but my birthday is coming up and I am definitely gonna fix that little problem!

Totally Tutu

The tutu. Every woman who loves glamour, will at some point, fall under the spell of the tutu. Whether it's a skirt, a dress, a halloween costume, or a traditional ballet tutu...you will want one. Perhaps it's because you feel a little like a princess, a bride or a fairy-even though you don't really want to admit it. I mean a full grown woman might be a little embarrassed to fess up to loving the same thing a 5 year old does. But, really, some things never change.

When I decided to make a tutu skirt to complement a bustier top I was working on I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I thought it would be a quick and simple sewing project. Without fail, whenever I think that, the project ends up taking 5 times longer than I anticipated and I think about throwing it in the garbage multiple times each day. But I persevered! After 10 yards of white tulle, 2 trips to the fabric store, and more than a few choice words to my sewing machine...I present my version of the super fun, super cute tutu. I have also provided some of my inspiration...enjoy.

The End of An Era

I just watched the fashion documentary "Valentino the Last Emperor" not only was it interesting and entertaining, it made me realize how important the art of couture is. It seems to be a dying art. YSL is gone, now Valentino is retired, Karl Lagerfeld is very much alive and well, but we are losing the great masters. Seeing the attention to detail and the obsession with beauty was very inspiring. Here are some of my favorite looks:
