Jerry Hall: ICON

Sometimes I get very nostalgic for fashion past. Sometimes the glitz and shimmer of 70's and 80's fashion photography makes me wish for something more hard core and in your face for right now. Jerry Hall sums up the vibe of that era: sexy, unreachable, beautiful, girl next door. She was two parts Amazon and one part southern bell. Irresistible rock royalty, ruby lipped bombshell, care free party girl. Men wanted her, women wanted to be her- isn't that the definition of celebrity? I love all of these images, the one that really seems to sum her up is the portrait for Vanity Fair of her breastfeeding her baby. With both eyes on the camera she's saying: Look at me! I am a mother, a glamazon, rich, famous, and I'm flaunting my womanhood right in your face-and you like it!

  1. LOVE this post! As a breastfeeding mom and as a fanciness enthusiast, I say thank you for being part of the solution! Jerry Hall is amazing, and these photos are a great collection to honor her legacy. I yearn a little more for the 40s and 50s, so I love the mermaid dress in that orange-y ochre color the most. People knock the 70s and 80s, but I applaud the joy and abandon that went into fashion and makeup in those days. I wish people today had a little more of that fearless, brazen attitude.
