Academy Awards: Red Carpet 2012

These are my fashion favorites from last night's festivities.
Overall I really enjoyed the Oscars this year, it felt like old times.
Meryl Streep (in Lanvin) was so luminous. She seems like she really lives life to the fullest, with joy, the way life is supposed to be lived.
Cheers to that!

Stella McCartney: A/W 2011 The Cocktail Dress

In the past I haven't paid very much attention to Stella McCartney and her collections each season. But, that's all about to change, now that I've seen these perfect little cocktail dresses (and outta this world jumpsuit). I absolutely love the pairing of the solid black with the sheer lace, and polka dots. Sexy, abstract, red carpet ready and tailored to perfection.

Spring 2011 Couture: Elie Saab

Now, I don't usually like to play up the idea of a strapless red carpet dress, (because this has been so overdone in the celebrity realm) however, there is something to be said for a perfect black strapless formal dress. This entire collection was amazingly flattering and tailored to perfection. Sometimes I'm surprised by how hard it is to find the right classic look for the right occasion. My hat is off to you Elie Saab, because I too am hot in pursuit of creating the perfect strapless special occasion dress.

INSPIRATION: Vogue Paris Masquerade

I love all the amazing masks and hats that paraded the Vogue Paris celebration.
So much over the top drama.
Feathers and leather and lace...
I do love a good masquerade.

Gasp! in the Garden...

Ahhh couture season...the fantasy and the fluff. This collection from Christian Dior as designed by one of my favorites, John Galliano, is in no way an abstract story. In fact it is a straight forward statement: beauty. Woman as a flower.  A classic theme with a modern twist. The colors are mind blowing...here are my favorites:

CFDA 2010 Red Carpet

The Council of Fashion Designers of America had it's annual award show the other night and it turned out the expected assortment of eye candy.  Here are my favorites:
A tribute to the late Alexander McQueen

Lara Stone in Calvin Klein

Zac Posen with Devon Aoki, in a dress by the designer

Sarah Jessica Parker in Alexander McQueen

My favorite was this amazing Marchesa dress worn by Hana Soukupova...those circus horses are melting me!

Glamour! Met Ball 2010

This year's Costume Institute Gala was full of surprises. Not all of them were good, but I'm going to focus on my favorites. I loved the diversity and the risk taking...the high/low contrasts and the chance to see designer looks off the runway.
Gwen Stefani in L.A.M.B.
Blake Lively in Marchessa (didn't love the shoe choice)
Iman in Prada looking amazing!
Naomi Watts in Stella McCartney (love the one shoulder)
Janet Jackson in Lanvin (very avant garde)
Chloe Sevigny in Proenza Schuler
(I LOVE the colored lace-would have paired it with different shoes though)
Chanel Iman in Michael Kors
(What can I say, I'm a sucker for gold jumpsuits)
Rachel Weisz in Oscar de la Renta
(Classically elegant)

OSCAR GOLD: Red Carpet to Remember!

I have been watching the Academy Awards for as long as I can remember. When that fateful Sunday was approaching I would even go as far as to dress up a bit for school. I am a sucker for glamour and a lover of great movies. My mind works a bit like a filing cabinet: putting away the most interesting or influential bits of meaningless trivia to be used for later. So, when I think back on red carpet looks that made it into my memory banks, a lot of them were on the worst dressed list. But hey, I'm okay with that; because those people weren't afraid to take a risk and some of it really was avant garde. If it was me, I would be a red carpet risk taker. You only have one big night...you better make it count!
