Kindred Spirit: TOM FORD

It was a dark day 6 years ago when Tom Ford "retired" from YSL and Gucci. I have always admired his design sense and I still find a lot of inspiration from those collections past. Well, it was a relief to hear that he was coming back to women's wear for Spring 2011 but, annoying that he didn't allow any photos or video to be released. The above pics are a first glimpse into the new collection.
Tom and I could be kindred spirits. His over use of metallics, leopard print, 70's whites, and heavy duty sexuality just seem right to me.
Why be soft and vulnerable when you can be fierce and hard core?
His tastes speak to my inner bad kitty!
Can't wait to see the collection in it's entirety, and Tom; some runway video right about now would be really nice, Thanks.

This Look is Why I Love the 70's

I want that hair with those jeans and that faux coat with a bustier underneath. Then I want someone to take me to the disco where I can "put on my red shoes and dance the blues..."
Let's Dance.

NYFW Spring 2011: Marc Jacobs

This collection is like something that Bernadette Peters from "The Jerk" would wear! Since she is one of my all time favorite characters, this luxurious look back at 70's glamour is so delightful. Marc Jacobs just knows how to do it and do it right. That chocolatey brown satin number is my favorite and the heels are SO disco fabulous. Sensual, feminine, with just the right amount of edge.

Jerry Hall: ICON

Sometimes I get very nostalgic for fashion past. Sometimes the glitz and shimmer of 70's and 80's fashion photography makes me wish for something more hard core and in your face for right now. Jerry Hall sums up the vibe of that era: sexy, unreachable, beautiful, girl next door. She was two parts Amazon and one part southern bell. Irresistible rock royalty, ruby lipped bombshell, care free party girl. Men wanted her, women wanted to be her- isn't that the definition of celebrity? I love all of these images, the one that really seems to sum her up is the portrait for Vanity Fair of her breastfeeding her baby. With both eyes on the camera she's saying: Look at me! I am a mother, a glamazon, rich, famous, and I'm flaunting my womanhood right in your face-and you like it!

White Hot

Have you ever noticed how cool people look when they are wearing a slick white suit? There is something sexy and androgynous about a woman when she gets all glammed up in a white tuxedo.  White exudes luxury, commands attention, and draws the eye. Bowie and Travolta set the standard and I think sometimes we would all like to get back to that disco ball of escape and dance the night away. Here are some of my favorite examples of the smoldering white suit in action.

Birthday Girl

My birthday is coming up at the end of this month. I love horses, sadly I don't own one yet, so when thinking about my fantasy birthday Bianca Jagger came to mind. Imagine making your entry into Studio 54 upon a white horse! Seventies excess, over the top glamour...sounds like my kind of party.
