Make it Work!

This editorial is an excellent example of how a few cardboard cut outs, and a  beautiful outdoor setting can create a a story and make a statement. With the right vision, hard work, and  playfulness; art will ooze! I can't stand it when people who have so much talent let lack of equipment or not enough  money stand in their way of sharing their vision with the world. Make art, borrow a camera, make fashion, whatever, just MAKE IT WORK!

Fresh Baked Glam

Why are my felt jewlery pieces in the oven?
Well, with all of the colder weather setting in, the drying time for glue, and glitter paint is extremely long. So, to speed things up I just set the oven to 170 degrees for 5 minutes, then immediately turn it off. After that, I put in all the pieces that need to dry and voila, it's like a hot summers day.
Jewelry: done. Me: genius!

Kiss Kiss: The Perfect Wedding

I love this wedding idea!
If I could go back in time, I would choose this for my wedding theme.
So much FUN!

Drip...Drop...

Teardrop chandelier crystals are kind of an obsession of mine. When I noticed all the buzz surrounding the Prada Spring/Summer 2010 collection, I realized; I'm not alone. Of course they are beautiful on their own: reflecting light, glittering, twinkling...but when recycled into jewelry or a garment, they really do make a statement.

Barcelona...

Viva La Moda Magazine is running a contest called Project Reconstruction, a charity fundraiser, that I am participating in. The idea was to take a men's dress shirt and transform it into anything your heart desired. Well, my heart seems to desire romance, equestrian chic, underwear as outerwear, and just a sprinkling of Karl Lagerfeld for good measure. Still waiting to hear how my creation will rate, but I wanted to give my readers a sneak peek.

The Story of The Barcelona:
My inspiration for “The Barcelona” (this is the official name of my shirt) was a vintage 1980’s wedding dress bodice. The dress was originally purchased by my half sister for a wedding that never happened. I liked the idea of resurrecting the beauty of the original gown and in the process leaving behind the pieces of her failed relationship. The sleeves were so romantic and beautiful that they were really the crème de la crème of this project.
The original shirt was a soft cotton men’s tuxedo shirt in a size XL.  I added vintage military, rhinestone, and rose buttons at the shoulders to give a little bit of edge to all that softness and romance. I hand dyed the corset piece of the original gown and then sewed it to the front of the shirt. I love that it gives a nod to the lingerie trend that is so hot right now. All of the lace detailing was salvaged from that original wedding dress.
The end result is Karl Lagerfeld meets John Galliano while horse back riding in a magical forest at twilight. At least that’s the way I see it...

My Inner Lumberjack

As I'm sure you are well aware, (being a fashion follower) plaid is hot, hot, hot! I'm loving the big checkerboard lumberjack pattern in bright colors: yellow, red, turquoise, and pink. I have been wanting one of those cutesy tops for so long...so I decided to make myself something special for Christmas. I found a vintage Field and Stream men's shirt at a thrift store and transformed it into my idea of a sexy eye catching party top. A happy accident inspired the peek-a-boo lace panel in the back (but that is actually my favorite part). I was very much inspired by previous Ralph Lauren and D&G runway collections. Here are some of my favorites...
