Makin' Somethin' Outta Nothin' - Shovels and Rope

I can't really admit to being much of a country girl myself, even though I was born and raised in what most people would consider to be the country. But, when something like the band Shovels and Rope comes my way, music genres go right out the window. They rock, they are genuine, they are romantic and sad, and have all the right moves. My husband, showed me a clip of them on Late Night with David Letterman and from that point forward I have been hooked! Ok, maybe a little obsessed.... I think my favorite song lyrically would be "Carnival". I would love to dress the lead singer and make her little hats and such- she is so cute, rough around the edges, and sexy as hell, and looks as though she just stepped out of a levi jeans commercial circa 1982!

P.S. Here is "Carnival" by Shovels and Rope
Fairy lights and muslin drapes,
the eyes that see us are sleeping.
Bottle of whisky, bottle of wine,
both from which we are drinking.
Dahlias in December, Chrysanthemums in June,
in a town that can't remember,
from dusk to dawn, my love was gone.

Between the veil of dusk and light,
the sweet and sorrowful hour
that separates morning and night
I roll you in the flour.
Across the world I wonder,
my moments made from years.
On a still and silent midway,
I wait for you to reappear.

Carnival, lull me to sleep.
No one can hear our voices.
I can tell your future and past
by the light of the carousel horses.
Across the world I wonder,
my moments made from years.
On a still and silent midway,
I wait for you to reappear.

Diane Young, Vampire Weekend

Nobody knows what the future holds
Said it's bad enough just getting old
Live my life, they say it's too fast
You know I love the past, 'cause I hate suspense...

If Diane Young won't change your mind,
Baby, baby, baby, baby ride on time

This is my new favorite album.
New favorite obsession.
Like a new boyfriend.
Like falling in love.

I'm Waiting for You...

A favorite. Love the hypnotic nature of this song and the makeup...so, right now!

FACE MELTER FRIDAY!

Well, I don't know about you all, but I'm about ready to rock my socks off over here! This is a collection of some of my all time face-melting favorites. Sometimes there just ain't anything else left to do but bring down the house with some good ol' stickin' it to the man.
Am I right?

PS I was at the Rage Against the Machine Free Tibet performance. Does this make me old school?

She & Him & a little thing called Jealousy

I have just recently become a fan of the band She and Him. I think I resisted for a while, because Zooey is just so darling and cutesy.  So much so, that I might want to strangle her... just a little bit.  Perhaps it's those vintage-y day dresses and flirty bangs that really get to me. If I'm being honest: I really like her style and I will say I find it inspirational (although maybe not all that original). All that said: the music (Volume One and Two) is really enjoyable and fun to sing along with. I find myself drifting off into imagining myself on stage, bangs and all, looking into the eyes of adoring fans. In fact, it's sort of the perfect sound track to summer.

LOVE All!

God, I love Vampire Weekend. There is just something so appealing about their preppy, Cape Cod, college, vibe. Since the only sport I ever played in school was tennis, you could say this video pushes all the right buttons.  I guess I should just move to Connecticut and shop at Ralph Lauren, and get it over with! Right? So here's to yachting, eating lobster, summering in Nantucket, and taking on Manhattan...let "Contra" be your sound-track.

Rock n Roll? Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!

I love the Yeah, Yeah, Yeah's. Pure raw rock. Although this isn't my favorite song of theirs, this is one of my favorite videos. The imagery has stuck with me all this time. "They don't love you like I love you!"
