Good Alice/Bad Alice

This amazing photo was a collaboration between myself and my friend Lyn Azar Rosten. We had been talking about working together for so long and when it all came together, I have to say, I felt a little magic in the air! We wanted to explore the idea of the innocent Alice, of the familiar Louis Carrol story, sitting on the banks of the creek with her cat Dinah being watched by the darker side of her own self. And instead of following the white rabbit to Wonderland, she cannot resist the temptation of the beckoning black rabbit, and so she loses herself in the shadows of the unfamiliar journey in the forest. I love the fantasy of it all, and that we managed to use real animals! I would love to take this idea to the next level: a series of dark and light fairy tale characters!

Alice in Wonderland

I think most could agree that the classic Louis Carrol tale has become a part of our lives, a reference point for fantasy, insanity, and escape. I have always been one part Alice, one part Mad Hatter, with a sprinkling of the Queen of Hearts. I have long been coveting these Alice-esque clippings and I am always tantalized by interpretations of this theme by different fashion designers.  So, without further adieu, I am unveiling the first of many Dark Pony ensembles that pay tribute to that curious world that we love so much. Isn't it nice when inspiration takes flight and ideas become reality?

Wrapped up in a Fairy Tale...

Well, I too caught the Alice in Wonderland bug, just like every other girl who has a soft spot for ruffles and such. I was inspired to create two one of a kind items. These were the kind of projects that were time consuming, difficult to say the least, but oh so rewarding! It was so much fun to play dress up for a day.

Curiouser and Curiouser....

Oh Alice, how you have enchanted me. When I was a little girl I had a frilly lace apron that served as the perfect Alice costume accessory. I would put it on over my best dress and spend my days frolicking in the woods and tip toeing across the brook. This was all inspired by the made for TV movie that debuted in the 80's that featured an all star cast including Sammy Davis Jr., Ringo Starr, and many others.

I'm hoping Tim Burton's Wonderland vision will live up to my expectations, cause they are pretty high! I am in the midst of 2 Alice inspired creations (pics coming soon) in the mean time, enjoy what whimsy etsy-land has to offer...

Falling Down the Rabbit Hole

A wonderland of fabulous fantasy, a seductive imaginative place, somewhere to loose yourself...these concepts are the everlasting appeal of Alice in Wonderland. The blue and white dress of a curious little girl has become an iconic symbol of whimsy. I have always been a die hard Alice fan. It was one of my favorite things to pretend.

I love the way that Gwen Stefani dressed it up and made it oh so grown up during her "Love.Angel.Music.Baby" album. I am a sucker for thematic conceptual fashion and music. When Vogue Magazine did their spread with the world's top fashion designers I just about passed out! I love that...especially the Viktor and Rolf shirt dress....oh, so good. So, just yesterday I find out that Tim Burton is doing an Alice in Wonderland remake. I am so excited I can barely contain myself. I hope it can live up to all of my expectations. From the promo pics, it looks tantalizing...
